When Jesus called us to love our neighbor, he gave us a task that is possible for each one of us and is also a blessing for each one of us. Many people around us might feel isolated or don’t feel a sense of belonging (maybe including us), and each one of us can bring change to that. You will see how loving your neighbor will change those things and also the relationships but also how it will give you a greater love for the people around you. It will leave a great impact and it builds a strong and lasting community for your neighbors and you as well to just name a few things. When I think back to last year and how the pandemic affected everyone around the world we saw more and more 1. the need of bringing God’s love to our local places and 2. How important it is to be connected with our neighbors. We got reminded of the call from Jesus also because our neighborhoods were the only places we could go to. So let’s all do this together starting today to take Jesus seriously and love our neighbor. We will give you a monthly tip with how to establish that relationship and love your neighbors in a practical way and then we will all put it into action with the neighbors right around us.  And then watch how over time your neighborhood will change! You, me, and all of us can do it so let’s do it!!

We hope your week was wonderful! This week was a baking time in our house. We baked about 100 brownies packed them up to be delivered along with our Christmas card to neighbors, contractors, delivery drivers, local places etc. While handing them out they put so many smiles on faces and lead to some wonderful conversations. Maybe think about baking something for your neighbors and people that are part of your neighborhood this week and bless them through it this Christmas season!

Hallo Freunde

Wir hoffen deine Woche war wunderbar! Diese Woche war Backzeit bei uns zu Hause. Wir haben ungefähr 100 Brownies gebacken und sie verpackt, um sie zusammen mit unserer Weihnachtskarte an Nachbarn, Bauarbeiter die auf unserer Straße arbeiten, Postler und andere auszuteilen. Während wir sie verteilten, brachten sie so viele Lächeln auf die Gesichter und führten zu einigen wunderbaren Gesprächen. Überlege dir doch wie du etwas für deine Nachbarn und Menschen die Teil deines Wohngebiets sind, diese Woche etwas backen kannst und dadurch ein Segen für sie sein kannst in dieser Weihnachtszeit!

How are you?

There is something special happening when you invite someone into your home. We have done this many times and keep doing this. Just having a small snack and tea together opens the door for deep conversations and oftentimes opens the door praying for someone. You might ask why can’t I just do that in a coffee shop or restaurant? Yes, you can invite people there too, but inviting someone into your home is saying “welcome into my family”. Maybe in this Season of Thanksgiving and Christmas invite someone into your family and home. You both will be blessed in the process often with a new friend!

And also there is still lots of time till Christmas but it fills up so fast so start right away to plan a Christmas celebration with your neighbors!

Wie geht es dir?

Etwas Wunderbares passiert, wenn wir jemanden zu uns nach Hause einladen. Wir haben dies regelmäßig getan und tun dies auch weiterhin. Einen Snack und Tee zusammen zu haben, öffnet die Tür für tiefe Gespräche und oftmals die Gelegenheit für jemand zu beten. Du fragst dich vielleicht, warum kann ich das nicht einfach in einem Café oder Restaurant machen. Ja, auch dorthin kann man Menschen einladen, aber jemanden zu sich nach Hause einzuladen spricht mehr „Willkommen zu meiner Familie und meinem zuhause“. Lade doch jemanden in dieser Weihnachtszeit in dein Zuhause/Familie ein. Oftmals wirst du und die andere Person dadurch mit einer neuen Freundschaft gesegnet.

Wir haben immer noch viel Zeit bis Weihnachten aber wie wir alle wissen füllt sich diese Zeit schnell auf. Deshalb fange auch gleich an deine Weihnachtsfeier mit Nachbarn zu planen.

Over the last few years it has been hard to use our “neighborhood offices” the little corner coffee shop and the library. But during the last few weeks Jen was able to do that again and it has been a great way to meet new people and also become a part of a community that meets there. If it is neighbors from our hill or families that bring their child to a book reading. It makes such a difference to be visible and be part of the neighborhood. That also goes along with our love your neighbor challenge for this month. Start to look around your neighborhood and find the third place (a third place between work/school and home to meet others) and then connect there with others. You will be blessed and you will also be a blessing!

In den letzten Jahren war es schwierig, unsere „Wohngegend Büros“, das kleine Eckcafé und die Bibliothek, zu nutzen. Aber in den letzten Wochen konnte Jen das wieder tun und es war eine großartige Möglichkeit, neue Leute kennenzulernen und auch Teil einer Gemeinschaft zu werden, die sich dort trifft. Ob Nachbarn von unserem Hügel oder Familien, die ihr Kind zu einer Kinderbuch lese Zeit bringen. Es macht so einen Unterschied sichtbar und dadurch Teil der Nachbarschaft zu sein. Das passt auch gut mit unserer „Liebe deinen Nächsten“-Herausforderung für diesen Monat zusammen. Fange an dich in deiner Nachbarschaft umzusehen um die „dritten Orte“ (ein dritter Ort neben Arbeit/Schule und zuhause um andere zu treffen) zu finden, und komme dann dort mit anderen in Kontakt. Das kann zum Segen für dich werden als auch für andere!

How are you?

During meetups with different people we saw again how important community is. Many, especially in cities, got more isolated during the circumstances of the last years. We noticed that some even see being isolated and away from others being as normal. But by actively pursuing individuals and loving on them we can bring hope and community. It can be something simple as a phone call or a dinner together that can bring change. We want to encourage you to think about neighbors and others in circles that might be isolated and start reaching out to them. The great thing about doing that is that not just they are blessed but you are blessed in return too.

Which actually goes perfect together with our monthly challenge to cook a meal for a neighbor in need, but instead of just cooking it lets eat together with them (the video doesn’t mention the situation I mentioned above so add that one in there J ). So be a blessing this week!!

Wie geht es dir?

Bei verschiedenen Treffen mit unterschiedlichen Menschen haben wir wieder gesehen, wie wichtig Gemeinschaft ist. Viele, besonders in den Städten, sind durch die Umstände der letzten Jahre stark isoliert worden. Uns ist aufgefallen, dass einige nun es sogar als normal ansehen, isoliert und von anderen getrennt zu sein. Aber indem wir Einzelpersonen aktiv lieben und mit ihnen in Kontakt sind, können wir Hoffnung und Gemeinschaft bringen. Es kann etwas Einfaches wie ein Telefonat oder ein gemeinsames Abendessen sein, das Veränderungen bewirken kann. Wir möchten Dich ermutigen, an Nachbarn und andere in deinen Kreisen zu denken, die möglicherweise isoliert sind, und mit ihnen in Kontakt zu kommen. Das Tolle daran ist, dass nicht nur diese Menschen gesegnet werden, sondern auch Du im Gegenzug gesegnet wirst.

Dies passt perfekt zu unserer monatlichen Challenge, eine Mahlzeit für einen Nachbarn zu kochen. Aber anstatt einfach nur zu kochen, lasst uns mit ihnen zusammen essen (das Video erwähnt die oben erwähnte Situation nicht, also füge diese dort hinzu). Werde diese Woche zum Segen!!

When Jesus called us to love our neighbor, he gave us a task that is possible for each one of us and is also a blessing for each one of us. Many people around us might feel isolated or don’t feel a sense of belonging (maybe including us), and each one of us can bring change to that. You will see how loving your neighbor will change those things and also the relationships but also how it will give you a greater love for the people around you. It will leave a great impact and it builds a strong and lasting community for your neighbors and you as well to just name a few things. When I think back to last year and how the pandemic affected everyone around the world we saw more and more 1. the need of bringing God’s love to our local places and 2. How important it is to be connected with our neighbors. We got reminded of the call from Jesus also because our neighborhoods were the only places we could go to. So let’s all do this together starting today to take Jesus seriously and love our neighbor. We will give you a monthly tip with how to establish that relationship and love your neighbors in a practical way and then we will all put it into action with the neighbors right around us.  And then watch how over time your neighborhood will change! You, me, and all of us can do it so let’s do it!!

Our tip for this month is to organize a trash cleanup day together with your neighbors! Watch the video with some tips on that!

How are you?

During the last week we saw again how love is a 2-way street. When we love our neighbors they in return love us back. Over the years we build many wonderful relationships with our neighbors. We were there for them when they needed help like true friends do. The same was true the other way around as well. One of our neighbors has given us a key to their car so we can use it whenever we need to. That enabled us last week to go to a 4^th of July bbq. Other times we could take Caleb to Doctor appointments or take him to the zoo. It is such a blessing to have access to a car. We didn’t love our neighbors to get something in return, but if you truly love people without an agenda often that happens. We want to encourage you to love your neighbors without an agenda. Be a friend to them and truly care about their life. And maybe start this week building relationships with the love your neighbor monthly tip by organizing a trash pickup day in your neighborhood!!

Als Jesus uns dazu berufen hat unseren Nächsten (Nachbarn) zu lieben, gab er uns eine Aufgabe die für jeden von uns möglich ist und gleichzeitig auch ein Segen für uns ist. Viele Menschen in unserem Umfeld fühlen sich oftmals einsam oder haben nicht das Gefühl das sie dazugehören (vielleicht fühlen wir uns auch selber manchmal so) und jeder von uns kann Veränderung in diesem Bereich bringen. Du wirst sehen wie sich diese Dinge und die Beziehungen mit Nachbarn verändern, wenn wir sie lieben, und wie auch wir selber eine größere Liebe für unsere Nachbarn haben. Es wird einen großen Eindruck hinterlassen und eine starke Gemeinschaft aufbauen für dich und sie um nur einige Dinge zu nennen. Wenn ich zum letzten Jahr zurückdenke und wie die Corona Virus Situation jeden auf der Welt traf sah man auch mehr und mehr 1. wie wichtig es ist die Liebe Gottes auch zu unseren Wohngebieten zu bringen und 2. Wie wichtig es ist mit unseren Nachbarn verbunden zu sein. Es war eine gute Erinnerung an Jesus Auftrag speziell auch deshalb da wir nicht wirklich woanders hingehen konnten. Lasst uns dies zusammentun und Jesus Auftrag unseren Nächsten/ Nachbarn zu lieben ernst nehmen. Wir werden jeden Monat einen Tipp posten wie Beziehungen aufgebaut werden können und wie wir praktisch unsere Nachbarn lieben können. Und dann werden wir das ganze aktiv mit unseren Nachbarn leben. Dann pass auf und sehe wie sich mit der Zeit deine Wohngegend verändert! Jeder von uns kann es tun deshalb lasst uns aktiv werden, Du, ich und jeder einzelne von uns!!

Wie geht es dir?

In der letzten Woche haben wir wieder gesehen, dass Liebe keine Einbahnstraße ist. Wenn wir unsere Nachbarn lieben, lieben sie uns zurück. Im Laufe der Jahre bauten wir viele wunderbare Beziehungen zu unseren Nachbarn auf. Wir waren für sie da, wenn sie Hilfe brauchten, wie es wahre Freunde tun. Dasselbe galt auch andersherum. Einer unserer Nachbarn hat uns einen Schlüssel für sein Auto gegeben, damit wir es benutzen können, wann immer wir es brauchen. Das ermöglichte uns letzte Woche, zu einem 4. Juli Grillen zu gehen. Andere Male könnten wir Caleb zu Arztterminen oder in den Zoo fahren. Es ist so ein Segen, Zugang zu einem Auto zu haben. Wir haben unsere Nachbarn nicht geliebt, um eine Gegenleistung zu bekommen, aber, wenn wir Menschen ohne eine Agenda wirklich lieben, passiert das oftmals. Wir möchten dich ermutigen, deinen nächsten Nachbarn ohne Agenda zu lieben. Sei ihnen ein wahrer Freund und interessiere dich wirklich für ihr Leben. Fange doch diese Woche mit dem monatlichen Liebe deinen Nachbarn Tipp an Beziehungen aufzubauen, indem du einen Müll aufsammel Tag in deinem Wohngebiet planst.

Getting away to rest – even for a short time and a regular weekly day of rest is so important for all of us. I love how it talks many times in scripture how Jesus went away to rest. Rest is an important thing and God set it in place from the beginning of everything when he rested on the 7^th day. Our family got to spend a few days this week away from the city in Santa Rosa. Our YWAM friends there had a church open up an apartment for them for missionaries to use to rest. It was such a wonderful time. We got to swim in a lake, hike in a local park, sit in the backyard to read and had some wonderful food including a breakfast at a local American/Mexican diner. We all feel so refreshed and strengthened from that time away from the city. We want to encourage you to put in your schedule times of rest and times of being away. And don’t let money hold you away from it either, there are many ways to get away really cheap! If you need some ideas about that email me!!

Hallo Freunde

Urlaub, selbst für eine kurze Zeit, und ein wöchentlicher Ruhetag ist so wichtig für jeden von uns. Ich liebe es in der Bibel wie es oftmals von Jesus spricht wie er von Zeit zu Zeit wegging um sich auszuruhen. Ruhe ist eine wichtige Sache und Gott hat sie seit dem Anfang der Welt eingeführt in dem er am 7. Tage ruhte. Unsere Familie konnte letzte Woche einige Tage in Santa Rosa verbringen. Unsere YWAM Freunde dort haben von einer Gemeinde eine Wohnung zur Verfügung gestellt bekommen das sich Missionare erholen können. Wir hatten eine super Zeit. Wir schwammen in einem See, wanderten in einem Park, saßen im Garten und lasen und hatten wunderbares essen inklusive einem amerikanisch/mexikanischen Diner Frühstück. Wir kamen von dieser Zeit außerhalb der Stadt erfrischt zurück. Wir möchten auch dich ermutigen Zeit in deinen Kalender einzuplanen um Ruhe zu finden und auch in den Urlaub zu gehen. Lass dich nicht von Geld zurückhalten, es gibt viele Wege sehr billig Urlaub zu machen. Falls du einige Ideen dafür haben möchtest schreib mir eine E-Mail!!

Vergiss auch nicht die moantliche Liebe deinen Nachbarn Herausforderung; biete einem älteren Nachbarn deine Hilfe mit der Gartenarbeit an!

Our Summer is quickly approaching with mostly beautiful and sunny weather in the last week. That enabled us to host our small group in Washington Square park. Everyone brought a lunch and we had such a wonderful picnic time together. Summertime is a wonderful time to connect with neighbors and our communities outside. Most of us want to do that anyway so invite others along!

Unser Sommer kommt in großen Schritten an mit wunderbarem Wetter speziell in der letzten Woche! Das gab uns die Möglichkeit uns mit unserer Kleingruppe im Washington Square Park zu treffen. Jeder brachte sein eigenes Mittagessen zu einem wunderbaren gemeinsamen Picknick. Die Sommerzeit ist eine super Zeit um sich im freien mit Nachbarn zu treffen. Die meisten von uns wollen sowieso nach draußen gehen, lasst uns einfach dazu unsere Nachbarn einladen!

How are you?

Jen, Caleb and I are doing well!! We are enjoying the sunny days we are having right now here in SF. Cause of the good weather Jen is able to connect with more Moms in the neighborhood while taking Caleb out to the park. It’s a wonderful way to build new and deeper relationships. We also got further in editing the book. It still is a long way to go but we are moving forward which is encouraging. Also don’t forget this month love your neighbor tip and write an encouraging email to a neighbor!!!

Wie geht es dir?

Jen, Caleb und mir geht es gut!! Wir genießen das sonnige Wetter hier in San Francisco. Wegen dem guten Wetter kann Jen mit Caleb mehr in den Park gehen und dadurch mit mehr Müttern in Kontakt kommen. Ein wunderbarer einfacher Weg um neue Freundschaften aufzubauen oder andere zu vertiefen. Wir kommen auch weiter im editieren des Buches. Es ist immer noch ein langer Weg aber es geht vorwärts was ermutigend ist!  Vergiss auch nicht den Liebe deinen Nachbarn Tip für diesen Monat und schreibe eine ermutigende E-Mail an deine Nachbarn!!
